Brand You – The Mantra for Achieving Success using Personal Branding

Hello,

I have been wanting to share my thoughts on how important it is to look at Branding from a new perspective. The branding of people like you and me. Sure all product / service / corporate Branding embodies human aspirations and brands would not be if marketing people did not spend time in understanding people. Yes, we the diverse audience make the Brands happen.

I don’t want to digress so let me get back, what I meant by the ‘human perspective’ is that we need to start look at ourselves as Brands. And why not? We have always been but not acknowledged this aspect of our very existence.

Each one of us has some unique skill/s which others do not possess. You, your family, friends, people you meet professionally and otherwise have unique abilities. These abilities coupled with life and work experiences define your success quotient and thus provide a platform for personal success. Letting the world know who you are, what you do, what you can do and how you can benefit others professionally and personally is the way to market yourself. Connecting with a set of people from the vast diverse universe based on psychographic, demographic and social parameters. Not much changes when you apply the tenets of branding to YOU as a someone who needs to be recognised.

Thus Personal branding is the process by which individuals and entrepreneurs can differentiate themselves from others – stand out apart from the crowd and achieve their goals and objectives while helping others do the same.

So where do you begin the process of Personal Branding?

It starts with identifying your unique value proposition (USP) both professional and personal. How you leverage this USP alongwith your other skills to achieve your goal defines your approach to creating Brand YOU.

The Internet has redefined branding. Today every individual has an opportunity to create a unique brands using the Internet Medium.

Reaching millions of people or focusing on a group of like minded people, leveraging platforms with a consistent message and image to achieve a specific goal is at the heart of personal branding. It is all about being available, letting the world know about you, your expertise and thus enhance your recognition as an expert. This helps you build self-confidence, establish reputation and gain credibility, improving the chances of growing a business or advancing in your career.

So what should you do now that you want to build Brand YOU. First and foremost you to assess your strengths and weaknesses. Its like the Art of War – first you prepare. The points stated below should get you started and drive you forward in your quest towards success.

The process mentioned hereon will help you to present yourself more effectively based on your experiences – experiences culled from your own life – the trials and tribulations you were subjected to and the pleasure you derived by undertaking some activities which thus account for your experience.

A well-executed personal branding campaign creates a strong, consistent, and specific association between the individual and the perceived value they offer. In business, many famous individuals such as Donald Trump, Jack Welch, Jennifer Lopez etc have created enormous personal visibility and success by actively promoting their personal brands. Donald Trump will is an example show you how to get rich from the dumps. Jack Welch will show you how to manage a global business and dream big.

Personal branding typically begins with establishing an inventory of core competencies, expertise, demonstrated abilities, and existing level of recognition, informed by market research or feedback.

Questions to be answered revolve around who needs to know about you, what need are you best-positioned to fill, and what differentiates you from others in your field or space?
